Agenda Item 12.1- COVID-19 Impact Report on City Facilities
Mayor and City Council,
During the September 2nd City Council meeting I inquired as to a plan for reopening City Hall to
the public.
In response to the Mayor Pro-Tem’s question: “What City Hall’s plan is for opening?” the City
Manager stated, “We don’t have a plan yet.”
In consideration of that shocking reply, many appreciate Councilmember Sobek’s request and the
rest of the Councils directive to provide tonight’s report: COVID-19 Impact Report on City
Facilities. Although a more accurate title would be City Hall Reopening.
In the opening Discussion paragraph, the Staff report cites “confirmed cases”, but does not cite the
source of the statistics. Further, it is unclear if the cases cited are infections or deaths among a
myriad of other questions.
Item #1 in the Reopening Alternatives portion of the report doesn’t appear to be a “reopening”
alternative at all. Rather, it seems to be status quo. In the For the Public Staff suggests limited
public opening Monday through Thursday (Friday closed to the public and open to phones /online
services same as current). What’s special about Fridays? What justifies and/or necessitates Friday
closures?
Item #3) Full Reopening under For Employees states “This alternative is highly risky and
vulnerable as it exposes both the public and city staff to infection, transmission…” Highly risky
as determined by whom? Is this based on facts or someone’s opinion?
Government’s primary role is to serve the public! Please keep this in mind when considering
which alternative you choose.
