Background of Outstanding Citizen •Adopted May 4, 2016 •Application process submitted by anyone •Nominee must live or work in Menifee •Recipients are recognized at a City Council Meeting •Monthly recipients are nominated for Annual Award •Outstanding Citizen of the Year is forwarded for annual regional recognition awards Outstanding Citizen Policy Questions •How are the recipients selected? •What if more than one application is received per month? •How are nominees vetted? By whom? •What should the recipients be awarded? •How to increase participation? •What modifications, if any, would the Council like to make? Outstanding Citizen Award •Possible Modifications: Process - 1.Councilmember Rotation 2.Quarterly Recognition 3.Categorical Recognitions •(i.e. Arts & Culture, Citizenship, Professional Achievement, etc.) 4.Unlimited Nominations Outstanding Citizen Award •Possible Modifications: Eligibility - 1.Volunteering time 2.Positive impact on others 3.Dedicated to Menifee and concern for others 4.Works continually towards the betterment of the community 5.Qualities of honesty and integrity 6.Community Services and contributions on behalf of the welfare of others and to the City at large 7.Making Menifee a great place to live, work, play and learn Outstanding Citizen Award •Possible Modifications: Selection – 1.Scoring Form –to be determined by Council criteria 2.Council subcommittee –with two Councilmembers Outstanding Citizen Award •Possible Modifications: Awards – 1.Monthly •Menifee swag, specially designed memento 2.Annual •Plaque, gift card, Menifee Matters, Fourth of July parade Outstanding Citizen Award •Participation from the public has been limited and nominations have been few.Staff can work with PIO to create a campaign to promote the program.
