2020-07-15 City Council Item No. 12.1 Public Comment - Klein Attachment Regular MEETING - Additional Meeting MaterialsJuly 15, 2020 Agenda Item #12.1 Recently, much debate has centered on whether or not to place a Measure DD Affirmation on the ballot. Essentially, an affirmation measure is the City’s message to the voters. However, I’ve become aware of discussion amongst influential individuals; and one or more councilmembers has focused on the reliance of the voters to determine the fate of Measure DD; thereby foregoing an affirmation measure. City Council didn’t “leave it to the voters” when appointing Mayor Zimmerman; City Council didn’t “leave it to the voters” when establishing Menifee PD; City Council didn’t “leave it to the voters” when it recently approved CIP projects. No, you acted responsibly; in the best interest of Menifee! Not only in the best interest of Menifee voters; but City Employees; Business Owners, including General Contractors; Stakeholders and thousands of college students.  Non-resident employees that dedicate themselves daily to the betterment of Menifee. It’s residents’ quality of life!  Business owners that provide jobs, and goods & services residents’ desire and have come to expect.  Stakeholders that have more invested in Menifee than most, if not all residents. Stakeholders that some rely upon to finance campaigns and/or special interest groups and non-profits.  College students that rely on you to carry their vision of a well-balanced community. All of these people in addition to “the voters” rely upon you to not only be elected representatives, but to act as leaders; to make difficult and challenging decisions that influence and affect Menifee’s quality of life. In consideration of this, I encourage you to affirmatively vote Staff recommendation. Too much is at stake to “leave it to the voters” without providing an affirmation message!
