Mayor Zimmerman and Council Members,
As we are all aware, our country, is at a critical point. I am writing to you as an African‐American, a mother and a
resident of the City to express my support for putting an end to police brutality throughout the country as well as my
hope and prayer for the City of Menifee.
As an African‐American, I have first hand knowledge of the various injustices that African‐Americans face in their day to
day lives, including injustices at the hand of police officers. I’m a mother of 2 young adults and I often worry if my son,
my daughter or another family member will become victims of these injustices. You see, the unfortunate reality is that
although my son is a college graduate with a career and although my daughter will soon be entering her last semester of
Nursing school and despite the fact that they are truly beautiful individuals, they could easily become the victims of
police brutality simply because the color of their skin. This isn’t new. These practices have been ongoing for centuries.
With that being said, I believe that the City of Menifee has a unique opportunity to remain on the fair and equal side of
justice with the formation of the Menifee PD. The Menifee PD’s homepage reads “This Is Our Origin Story,” in big bold
letters as soon as you access the site. I hope and pray that the City, Chief Walsh and his new team tell a story that is
deeply rooted on the fair and equal side of justice for all of our citizens, including those of color.
Chief Walsh, I look forward to working with you on the acknowledgment and understanding of the existing issues in any
way that I can. I would also be interested in hearing additional details on the actions that your department has taken to
combat and avoid this critical issue.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Tamara Harrison
