2022-04-20 City Council Item No. 10.7 Asset Forfeiture for Crime Stoppers Presentation Regular MEETING - Additional Meeting MaterialsMENIFEE POLICE DEPARTMENT
•The first Crime Stoppers program was launched on September 8,
1976.Today,programs reach around the world.
•In 2020,as the Menifee Police Department was preparing for
launch, the Investigations Division discovered a void in the
southwestern region of Southwest Riverside County for Crime
Stoppers.
•The Southwest Riverside Crime Stoppers evolved out of an idea
and strong desire to deliver a safe way for our community to
partner with law enforcement and provide an anonymous way to
report tips related to crime.
Background
•The mission of Southwest Riverside Crime Stoppers is to prevent and
reduce crime,by forming a partnership among the community, law
enforcement, and the media to offer anonymity and cash rewards to
anyone providing information leading to an arrest.
•Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local
law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the
two key elements that inhibit community involvement:fear and apathy.
Crime Stoppers Mission
Southwest Riverside Crime Stoppers uses a three-part approach to
preventing and solving crimes:
•First, we empower the community by providing a safe and
anonymous way to submit tips related to criminal activity.
•Secondly, Crime Stoppers partners with all forms of media in the
region to publicize felony crime and inform the community on how
to anonymously submit tips.
•Law enforcement is the final piece;they follow-up on tips from
community members.
Crime Stoppers Mission
The initial funding to establish Southwest Riverside Crime
Stoppers is being requested from the Menifee Police
Department’s Asset Forfeiture funds in the amount of $9500.
This money is supporting the establishment of the 501(c)(3)
and seed money for rewards.
We are partnering with our surrounding agencies to help
support additional start-up costs.
