2021-10-20 City Council Item No. 8 Councilmember Deines Handout REGULAR MEETING - Additional Meeting Materials1 Microchipping Encouragement We offered our microchipping ½ off for the entire month of June in order to encourage microchipping before the 4th of July holiday. •50% increase in lost pets around 4th of July •More microchipping = Less lost animals in the shelter/more returns to owners •2021 AFV took in 176 dogs over the week of 4th of July. July 1 –July 8 •58 were owner surrenders 3 4 5 •Maintains or strengthens positive relationships between AFV & rescue organizations. •Increases engagement with our followers and reach is significantly higher with potential followers. AFV Calendar Contest 6 We held a campaign for people to submit photos of their pets for our calendar. •Donations were needed to vote on favorite •Increases engagement with audience •Shows AFV cares about the community’s animals We participated in a campaign by Petco Love for people to submit adoption stories. •More community engagement •Strengthens follower/organization relationship •Showcases updates on successful adoptions Clear the Shelters 2021 We participated in a nationwide campaign from August 23rd –September 19th to encourage adoptions through shelter events, discounts, and social media blasts. •Held a Clear the Shelters event at the shelter on September 18 with vendors, goodie bags, raffles, and giveaways. •Adopted 366 animals •Offered $25 off adoption fees on the 18th, meaning our pitbulls/chihuahuas were free (excluding additional spay/neuter fees if applicable.) •Had professional photography done each week to edit and post 4 “Pets of the Day” for all four weeks. •Helped promote the campaign by social media posts and flyers around the shelter. 2021 Hurdles Accomplishments During SummerNonprofit of the Year Award Smernoff Grant/Albert and Anna Herdina Memorial Fund Grant •Selected by Assemblymember Kelly Seyarto & California Association of Nonprofits (2021-2022) 10 •Irrigation system brought up to date •New washer/dryers (2 of each) •Hot water system revamped •2 new servers •Roofing for all kennels (prevents escapes) •Parking lot resurfaced •New & more efficient phone system •All new flooring for halls indoors •Thresholds on doors (helps prevent disease spread, helps keep rooms hygienic as it does not trap waste, keeps room smelling fresh.)
