2015-04-14 Public Safety Committee MinutesCity of Menifee Public Safety Committee April 14, 2015 1. Call to order and roll call Chairman Denver called the meeting to order at 3 p.m. Present were: Chairman John Denver, Committee member Greg August, City Manager Robert Johnson, City Clerk Kathy Bennett, Police Captain Mike Judge, Police Lt. Charles Guillen, Fire Chief Jorge Rodriguez, AFV Director Willa Bagwell, Building Official Colin McNie, City Engineer Jonathan Smith, Code Enforcement Tech Avie Barron, and Code Enforcement Officer Wayne O'Gara. 2. Public Comments None. 3. Minutes — March 10, 2014 Approved by Committee members. 4. Activity Reports/Status Updates Police Department Lt. Guillen reported on crime statistics for the month of March. Captain Judge answered various questions regarding consideration for ultimate levels of staffing, etc. The committee asked the City Manager to consider the possibility of various equipment that could be used in the city such as City wide cameras and license recognition systems when budget might be available in the future. 5. Activity Reports/Status Updates Fire Department Chief Rodriguez reported on the Fire Department statistics for the month of March. 6. Activity Reports/Status Updates Code Enforcement Director of Code Enforcement McNie covered the statistics for the Code Enforcement department for the month of March. He noted there are several properties where the department is working with the Attorney to determine how to handle properties that are in violation but have no owner to contact regarding the enforcement and abatement issues and recovery of costs. 7. Activity Reports/Status Updates Emergency Services a. SCE programs update Engineering Director Jonathan Smith reported on the City's work with various agencies and companies such as SCE for emergency preparation and early reporting and ability to reach residents with vital information. 8. Activity Reports/Status Updates from Animal Control Providers City of Menifee Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes April 14, 2014 a. County of Riverside Sheltering Services — not present at meeting. b. Animal Friends of the Valleys Animal Control Services AFV Director Willa Bagwell reported on the March Animal Control statistics and answered questions regarding the various aspects of the animal control services. Committee members asked her to consider reporting on a possible local spay/neuter program with local vets and to investigate the possibility of a local microchip program push to get as many dogs micro -chipped as possible. She agreed to look into those items and report back to the Committee. 9. City Manager Comments None. 10. Committee Members Comments None. 11.
