City of Menifee Public Safety Committee Meeting Minutes June 10, 2013 1. Call to order and roll call Chair Denver called the meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. Present were: Chair John Denver, Committee Member Tom Fuhrman, Interim City Manager Robert Johnson, Fire Battalion Chief Jorge Rodriguez, Police Lt. Charles Guillen, Building Official Colin McNie, City Clerk Kathy Bennett and one member of the public (press). 2. Public Comments None. 3. Discussion of Fire Services Provided to the City Chief Rodriguez gave the committee an overview of the four stations in Menifee and the way coverage works when needed, a general overview of the equipment available and the staffing. He explained the process of responding to a fire or medical aid response. Council clarified various aspects of the fire service provided and the funding that comes from property tax providing a Structural Fire Tax used to provide fire services, noting that, in most cases, further general funds are needed to cover the full cost of the services. Possible locations for future stations were discussed and the Chief noted these decisions are made after careful study and review of all aspects of the proposed location. Council thanked Chief Rodriguez for the detailed account of the fire services provided in Menifee. 4. Discussion of Police Services Provided to the City Chair Denver asked if the next meeting could have a detailed description of police services provided in Menifee and Lt. Guillen agreed that would be possible. The item was therefore continued to the next meeting of the committee. 5. City Manager Comments Interim Manager Johnson asked when the committee would like to meet and the date of Monday, July 15, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. was selected. 6. Committee Members Comments Committee member Fuhrman noted he used to be part of a volunteer Fire Department in another state. 7.
