DRAFT 2018-08-14 Menifee Public Safety Committee August 14, 2018 3:00 PM Regular Meeting City Council Chambers 29714 Haun Road Menifee, CA 92586 Minutes 1. Call to order and roll call Chairman Matt Liesemeyer called the meeting to order at 3:04 p.m. Present were: Chairman Matt Liesemeyer, Committee Member Greg August, Assistant City Manager Jeff Wyman, Records Technician Roxana Elliott, Economic Development Manager Gina Gonzalez, Building Official Colin McNie, Public Works Director Jonathan Smith, Traffic Engineer Rob Blough, Community Services Director Jonathan Nicks, Community Services Supervisor Jason Hendrix, Fire District Chief Geoff Pemberton, Police Lieutenant Scott Forbes, Police Sergeant John Burke, Animal Friends of the Valley Officer Mo Middleton. 2. Public Comments Committee Chair Liesemeyer called for public comments and there was none. 3. Minutes – The July 10, 2018 minutes were approved unanimously. 4. Fire Department Monthly Report Fire District Chief Geoff Pemberton provided the monthly Fire stats detailing the number of calls per month. Mr. Pemberton reported on the average in route to on scene time for each Fire Engine for the month of July. 5. Police Department Monthly Report Police Sergeant John Burke provided the monthly stats and cases of interest. Sergeant John Burke updated the committee on the homeless outreach program. Committee Member August asked about National Night Out. Sergeant John Burke responded the National Night out was held at the Oasis and they allowed people in until they reached capacity and had to turn away some people. 6. Code Enforcement Monthly Report Building Official McNie provided the monthly report and also reported on the final phase of the weed abatement program. The final citations were issued Committee Member Liesemeyer asked about Code Enforcement staffing. Mr. McNie responded a recruitment for Code Enforcement officers has been started and interviews were scheduled for the following week. Mr. Liesemeyer asked for clarification on public and private citations. Mr. McNie provided clarification. 7. Animal Control Monthly Report a. Animal Control Services – Animal Friends of the Valleys (AFV) AFV Officer Middleton reported on the monthly statistics for the month of July and provided an update on animals being evacuated and transported due to the fire. 172 dogs were rescued from the fire and 86 of them were transferred to San Jacinto. Committee Member August asked if transferring the dogs made it more difficult for the owners to be reunited with their pets. Officer Middleton responded Animal Friends of the Valley was assisting in transporting the pets back to their owners. 8. Public Works/Engineering Monthly Report Senior Traffic Engineer Rob Blough provided the monthly report. Committee Member Liesemeyer asked why construction had started again on Murrieta Rd. Mr. Blough responded there were corrections that needed to be made. Committee Member August asked if a flashing stop sign was to be placed on Bradley and what the cost associated with it would be. Mr. Blough responded they would be installing one and the cost would be $1900.00 plus the fees for installation. Committee Member Liesemeyer asked for an update on Lazy Creek Rd. Mr. Bough provided the update. 9. Community Services Park Ranger Monthly Report Community Services Supervisor Jason Hendrix provided the Park Ranger monthly report. 10.
